The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Financial Controller to lead the financial function of a growing, capital-intensive business operating in the construction sector. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and supporting long-term business growth aligned with shareholder objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute the overall financial strategy in line with shareholder objectives and long-term growth plans
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management in a capital-intensive environment
  • Structure and negotiate banking facilities, project funding, and debt arrangements
  • Ensure liquidity stability across multiple project and development cycles
  • Ensure full compliance with Australian accounting standards, taxation regulations, and audit requirements
  • Strengthen internal controls, approval workflows, and documentation standards
  • Lead external audit processes, tax planning, and regulatory reporting
  • Prepare and present financial reports, budgets, and strategic forecasts to senior stakeholders
  • Finalise monthly balance sheets and ensure accuracy of financial reporting
  • Prepare and maintain monthly KPIs to monitor business performance
  • Conduct monthly cost reduction (ETS) meetings with middle and senior management
  • Manage sensitive financial matters with discretion and sound executive judgment
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to drive accountability and high performance
  • Build and implement scalable finance systems to support ongoing business growth
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with operations and project teams
  • Manage company insurance portfolio and liaise with brokers as required
About You:
  • MUST have proven experience in the construction industry (essential – applications without this will not be considered)
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader
  • Strong understanding of cash flow management, project funding, and financial structuring
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian accounting standards and tax regulations
  • Demonstrated experience managing audits and regulatory compliance
  • Strong leadership capability with experience building and mentoring teams
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • High level of commercial acumen and strategic thinking
  • CPA/CA qualified (or equivalent)
