The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Financial Controller to lead the financial function of a growing, capital-intensive business operating in the construction sector. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and supporting long-term business growth aligned with shareholder objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the overall financial strategy in line with shareholder objectives and long-term growth plans
- Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital management in a capital-intensive environment
- Structure and negotiate banking facilities, project funding, and debt arrangements
- Ensure liquidity stability across multiple project and development cycles
- Ensure full compliance with Australian accounting standards, taxation regulations, and audit requirements
- Strengthen internal controls, approval workflows, and documentation standards
- Lead external audit processes, tax planning, and regulatory reporting
- Prepare and present financial reports, budgets, and strategic forecasts to senior stakeholders
- Finalise monthly balance sheets and ensure accuracy of financial reporting
- Prepare and maintain monthly KPIs to monitor business performance
- Conduct monthly cost reduction (ETS) meetings with middle and senior management
- Manage sensitive financial matters with discretion and sound executive judgment
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to drive accountability and high performance
- Build and implement scalable finance systems to support ongoing business growth
- Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with operations and project teams
- Manage company insurance portfolio and liaise with brokers as required
- MUST have proven experience in the construction industry (essential – applications without this will not be considered)
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, project funding, and financial structuring
- In-depth knowledge of Australian accounting standards and tax regulations
- Demonstrated experience managing audits and regulatory compliance
- Strong leadership capability with experience building and mentoring teams
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
- High level of commercial acumen and strategic thinking
- CPA/CA qualified (or equivalent)
