Time in Role: 9 Months at Fetch – 4th year in Trades Recruitment
Tell us a bit about your career to date and how you got into Recruitment?
I started recruitment in 2018 at HAYs, working within the facades industry. I had a particular focus on facade manufacturing, modular building, and cladding. In 2020 I chose to change industries and lead Hays’ Plumbing Labour Hire division.
Then in 2021 I joined Fetchand in turn returned to the facades industry. I have always enjoyed working with facade’s clients and have found that I make the most impact with my clients and candidates within it.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Fetch?
I can’t narrow it down to one thing, I love that we put our relationships first. Really focusing on what’s best for our clients and candidates. I also love the people in our team, they make the ups and downs of recruitment more enjoyable.
What’s one thing you wish people knew about recruitment or your industry?
I feel you gain an understanding of this quickly in recruitment: hope for the best and plan for the worst. The thing is, you’re working with people, during a period of transition. Sometimes this brings out both the best and the worst in people.
So, to succeed within Trade recruitment, you usually need to plan for things to not go the way; you, your client, or your candidate may want them to go. Always have a plan B..C..D.. etc. You need to be able to adapt to circumstances changing all the time.
#1 career highlight to date?
It’s tough to pick one thing. I’ve loved my time so far in Trades recruitment. What stands out the most to me is the people I’ve helped find work, and the projects I’ve helped my clients deliver. A few examples of these are:
Latrobe University Student Accommodations
& multiple cladding safety Victoria re-clad projects.
I also recruited for Coles, at the start of the pandemic on a project basis, which I will never forget. Helping to manage a team of 15+ people, to recruit over 1,000 casual staff across Victoria in less than a month was an incredibly full-on experience.
Your life mantra is / Your philosophy on life is / The words you live by are…
You can only control what you can control. I try to focus less on what’s outside of my influence, because I can’t change the outcome of those events.
If your life were a movie which one would it be?
Depends on the day if I’m honest. Some days it feels like assembling the crew in Oceans 11, other days it’s piecing together the night before from The Hangover.
Favourite song, band or musician? (Or genre of music)
I quite like Jamiroquai or RUFUS DU SOL.
If you were on death row, what would be your last meal?
The biggest dry aged rib eye steak they would give me.
Paired with a Nikka barrel aged whiskey & a Cohiba Siglo II.
Name three things you are grateful for right now.
My partner Courtney
My Greyhound Joule
