Phil Meet The Fetchies

Phil is one of our highest achieving Senior Consultants in the Trades & Labour team at our Civil Labour Hire desk. Phil joined us at Fetch a year ago and has since demonstrated a strong passion for the industry and built a large network of clients and candidates throughout the state.

This UK local spends his days off playing football and adventuring around Australia, but come night time you’ll find him DJing and running events in the city. Check out his Q&A!

Name: Phil Underdown

Position: Senior Consultant – Civil Labour Hire

Time in role: 1 year

Tell us a bit about your career to date and how you got into Recruitment.

Prior to recruitment I had 5 years working in account management/sales positions in the UK with a focus on the construction industry (commercial and residential). I was always curious about recruitment as a lot of my friends had established successful careers in this space. After travelling I got the opportunity with Hays to start my career in the industry and to stay long term in Australia.  I moved across to Fetch in October 2018 and have never looked back!

What’s your favourite thing about working at Fetch?

We’ve got a great office space in Southbank, open plan, table tennis table, fantastic views and a great bunch of people to go with it.

What’s one thing you wish people knew about recruitment / your industry?

Sometimes labour hire can have a negative image, but out of all the candidates who work for me at least 20 of them have been in their roles for over 6 months. This shows we are doing the right thing. We go out of our way to ensure our guys are happy which ultimately reflects in their work.

Number 1 career highlight to date?

Setting a record at Fetch for the most candidates out working in a week.

Your life mantra is / Your philosophy on life is / The words you live by are…

Relax and enjoy the ride!

Which celebrity would play you in the movie of your life?

Cher

If you were on death row, what would be your last meal?

Full English breakfast

Name three things right now you are grateful for.

Family, friends, music

Tell us a #FunFact about you!

I run and DJ events across Melbourne with my group of mates. We play monthly at Storyville in the CBD and have also recently started up at The Lucky Coq on Chapel St. Message me for details hah

One job I’m recruiting for RIGHT NOW is:

Experienced Pipelayers (both stormwater and sewer) – where are they?
